Baseball

5U Tee Ball (Ages 3 - 5)

This is where the fun begins! Tee Ball introduces children to the fundamentals of baseball and focuses on instruction rather than competition. All players participate every inning. There are no strikeouts; every batter will hit the ball.

  • No game scores or standings are kept.
  • All players will play the entire game.
  • Soft, Reduced Injury Factor (RIF) baseballs are used for safety.
  • Maximum 8-10 players per team.
  • Carpool requests and requests to play with friends will be honored, if requested,
  • Games are 2 innings or 1 hour, whichever comes first.

6U Coach Pitch (Ages 5 - 6)

This is the beginning stages where children learn the fundamentals of baseball, teamwork and competition play. Players at the end of the season in 6U should have learned how to run the bases properly, attempt to field ground balls and more importantly know where to throw them and understand the concept of out versus safe, all in an environment of fun and sportsmanship stressed at both practices and games.

  • Soft, Reduced Injury Factor (RIF) baseballs are used for safety.
  • A batter gets 5 pitches from a coach to hit the ball. If not, the player hits off a tee.
  • Games are 3 innings or 1 hour 15 minutes, whichever comes first.
  • Outs are kept, but there is no score.
  • Carpool requests and requests to play with friends will be honored if requested.

8U Coach Pitch (Ages 6 - 7 - 8)

8U Coach Pitch is the step between tee ball and "kid pitch" baseball. In the 8U Coach Pitch division a coach pitches to the batters. There are no lead offs or stealing. Score and standings will be kept during games.

  • Games are 6 innings or 1 hour 20 minutes, whichever comes first.
  • Base distance is 60 feet.
  • Attendance at Player Evaluations is required. No carpool or friend requests will be considered.
  • In the Spring season this division will feature an end of season tournament with all teams participating.
  • An All-Star team will also be assembled at the end of the Spring season. The All-Star team will play in tournaments against teams in the surrounding cities/counties.

9U Kid Pitch (Ages 8 - 9)

The 9U Baseball division is purely developmental and helps advanced players transition from Coach Pitch to Kid Pitch. Teams begin to play a more complete level of baseball as they are introduced to “Kid pitch” baseball where the players pitch to the opposing team. Each pitcher may only pitch 2 innings per game.

  • Scores and team standings are kept.
  • Games are 6 innings or 1 hour 45 minutes, whichever comes first.
  • Base distance is 60 feet. Pitching distance is 46 feet.
  • In the Spring season attendance at Player Evaluations is required.
  • Depending on interest and evaluations, there may be an Academy-style team formed with paid training sessions as well as a volunteer coaches. Players will be evaluated during mandatory tryouts for the Academy-style team.
  • No carpool or friend requests will be considered.
  • In the Spring season this division will play in neighboring 9U leagues as well as friendly games against local teams.
  • In the Spring season this division will feature an end of season single-elimination tournament with all teams participating, provided there are enough teams.

 

10U Baseball (Ages 9 - 10)

The 10U Baseball Division is where you begin to play more competitive baseball and follow the rules of Major League Baseball closely. Players are allowed to lead-off and steal from all bases. Coaches will now have the opportunity to execute the finer tactics of advanced baseball.

  • Scores and team standings are kept.
  • Games are 7 innings or 2 hour, whichever comes first.
  • Base distance is 60 feet. Pitching distance is 46 feet.
  • In the Spring season attendance at Player Evaluations is required.
  • Depending on interest and evaluations, there may be an Academy-style team formed with paid training sessions as well as volunteer coaches. Players will be evaluated during mandatory tryouts for the Academy-style team.
  • No carpool or friend requests will be considered.
  • In the Spring season this division will play in neighboring 10U leagues as well as friendly games against local teams.
  • In the Spring season this division will feature an end of season single-elimination tournament with all teams participating, provided there are enough teams.

12U Baseball (Ages 11 - 12)

The 12U Baseball Division is where you begin to play more competitive baseball and follow the rules of Major League Baseball closely. Players are allowed to lead-off and steal from all bases. Coaches will now have the opportunity to execute the finer tactics of advanced baseball.

  • Scores and team standings are kept.
  • Games are 7 innings or 2 hours, whichever comes first.
  • Base distance is 60 feet. Pitching distance is 46 feet.
  • If we have enough players to create at least two teams, the 12U Baseball division will be a drafted league. Attendance at Player Evaluations is required. No carpool or friend requests will be considered.
  • In the Spring season this division will play in neighboring 12U leagues as well as friendly games against local teams.

Softball

10U Softball (Ages 9 - 10)

The 10U Softball division is where teams begin to play a more complete level of softball and is the first introduction to “Kid pitch” softball where the players pitch to the opposing team.

  • Scores and team standings are kept.
  • Games are 6 innings or 1 hour 30 minutes, whichever comes first and against other parks in Miami.
  • Base distance is 60 feet.
  • Pitching distance is 35 feet.

12U Softball (Ages 11 - 12)

The 12U Softball Division is where you begin to play more competitive softball. Players are allowed to lead-off and steal from all bases. Coaches will now have the opportunity to execute the finer tactics of advanced softball.

  • Scores and team standings are kept.
  • Games are 6 innings or 2 hours, whichever comes first. Games are against other parks in Miami.
  • Base distance is 60 feet.
  • Pitching distance is 40 feet.

MSLL prides itself on being an organization that teaches the values of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play to all of the children in the Miami Springs community. With approximately 400 participating boys and girls, MSLL is a volunteer organization offering baseball and softball leagues and travel teams managed by a Board of Directors and operated by dozens of dedicated volunteers.
